In September 2021, Founder Brandi took on the responsibility of caretaker for her father, who was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer the day after Blessed by Brandi, Inc. Fall for the Possible Fundraising Brunch event. Unbeknownst to her, her father was determined to take the 14-hour train ride from South Carolina, where he resided and persevered in unbearable pain to support his boo, as he affectionately called her. She would later find out it would be his last event.

Being in the hospital for a few weeks and contracting Covid-19, trying to regain his strength at the rehabilitation center, being unsuccessful in receiving approval for Medicaid in New Jersey, and now being considered uninsured were all key factors that played a part and delayed his ability to receive immediate treatment.

Her father’s Oncologist empathized with his situation and informed her of the Amgen Safety Net Foundation. The Foundation was going to cover all costs for treatment, but unfortunately, her father passed on December 3, 2021, a week before he received approval.

Brandi wants to be able to bless someone who has or may walk in the same shoes with wellness services after knowing firsthand the stress, frustration, and heaviness of being a caretaker. In honor of Brandi’s father, her goal is to give back by helping other lung cancer patients have a successful survival story regardless of being uninsured.
